How to Identify the Journal in which an Article was Published

Back

Different websites display the journal name in different places. Usually, it is at the top of the page, near the date of publication, the title, and the authors' names.

Some common places you may find scientific articles online include:

Pubmed NCBI

pubmed

On Pubmed, the journal name is listed, typically abbreviated, at the top left of the page above the title. If you don't understand the abbreviation, google it to find the full name.

Science Direct

Sci_Dir

On Science Direct, the journal name is featured prominently above the title.

Springer Link

Sci_Dir

On Springer Link, the journal name is just below the authors' names.

Wiley Online Library

Sci_Dir

On Wiley, the journal name is featured prominently above the title.

A Journal's Own Website

Sci_Dir

Articles may also be hosted on a website owned directly by the journal itself. In this case, the journal name will typically be prominent somewhere on the page. If you cannot see it, the name will also typically be in the address bar.

Somewhere else?

If the journal isn't on one of these website options, the journal name should still be near the top.
